I'm a freelance journalist, living in Contra Costa County, California, with my wonderful husband and two daughters, and a miserable 5-pound, fourteen year old cat named Fred, and a gigantic friendly (to all but men in baseball caps, of whom she has a yet-unexplained phobia) dog named Maui.
